India to host Dalai Lama in disputed territory, defying China. By Sanjeev Miglani and Tommy Wilkes. NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Indian federal government representatives will meet the Dalai Lama when he visits a sensitive border region controlled by India but claimed by China, officials said, despite a warning from Beijing that it would damage ties. India says the Tibetan spiritual leader will make a religious trip to Arunachal Pradesh next month, and as a secular democracy it would not stop him from traveling to any part of the country. China claims the state in the eastern Himalayas as "South Tibet", and has denounced foreign and even Indian leaders' visits to the region as attempts to bolster New Delhi's territorial claims. A trip by the Dalai Lama, whom the Chinese regard as a dangerous separatist, would ratchet up tensions at a time when New Delhi is at odds with China on strategic and security issues and unnerved by Beijing's growing ties with arch- rival Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration is raising its public engagement with the Tibetan leader, a change from earlier governments' reluctance to anger Beijing by sharing a public platform with him."It's a behavioral change you are seeing. India is more assertive," junior home minister Kiren Rijiju told Reuters in an interview. Rijiju, who is from Arunachal and is Modi's point man on Tibetan issues, said he would meet the Dalai Lama, who is visiting the Buddhist Tawang monastery after an eight- year interval."He is going there as a religious leader, there is no reason to stop him. His devotees are demanding he should come, what harm can he do? He is a lama."The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday the Dalai Lama's trip would cause serious damage to India- China ties, and warned New Delhi not to provide him a platform for anti- China activities."The Dalai clique has for a long time carried out anti- China separatist activities and on the issue of the China- India border has a history of disgraceful performances," spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing. CHINA INVESTING NEARBYVisits of the Dalai Lama are initiated months, if not years in advance, and approval for the April 4- 1. But the decision to go ahead at a time of strained relations signals Modi's readiness to use diplomatic tools at a time when China's economic and political clout across South Asia is growing. China is helping to fund a new trade corridor across India's neighbor and arch- foe Pakistan, and has also invested in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, raising fears of strategic encirclement. Last month a Taiwanese parliamentary delegation visited Delhi, angering Beijing, which regards Taiwan as an integral part of China. In December, President Pranab Mukherjee hosted the Dalai Lama at his official residence with other Nobel prize winners, the first public meeting with an Indian head of state in 6. Some officials said India's approach to the Tibetan issue remained cautious, reflecting a gradual evolution in policy rather than a sudden shift, and Modi appears reluctant to go too far for fear of upsetting its large northern neighbor. India's foreign secretary, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, was in Beijing last week on a visit that analysts said was aimed at stabilizing relations between the world's most populous countries. For graphic on India- China border, click http: //tmsnrt. Bc. GD)TANGIBLE SHIFTThat said, Modi's desire to pursue a more assertive foreign policy since his election in 2. China. At one bilateral meeting early in his tenure, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj asked her Chinese counterpart whether Beijing had a "one India" policy, according to a source familiar with India- China talks, a pointed reference to Beijing's demand that countries recognize its "one China" policy."One India" would imply that China recognize India's claims to Kashmir, contested by Pakistan, as well as border regions like Arunachal Pradesh. India's hosting of the Dalai Lama since he fled to India in 1. Chinese rule has long irritated Beijing. But government ministers often shied away from regular public meetings with the Buddhist monk."These meetings were happening before. Now it is public," Lobsang Sangay, head of the Tibetan government- in- exile based in the Indian town of Dharamsala, said in an interview."I notice a tangible shift. With all the Chinese investments in all the neighboring countries, that has generated debate within India," he said. The chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, a member of Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, met the Dalai Lama in New Delhi in October and officially invited him to visit the state. On the Dalai Lama's last visit in 2. This time he will be joined by federal minister Rijiju, a move the Chinese may see as giving the trip an official imprimatur. New Delhi has been hurt by China's refusal to let it join the Nuclear Suppliers Group, the global cartel that controls nuclear commerce. India has also criticized Beijing for stonewalling its request to add the head of a banned Pakistani militant group to a U. N. Security Council blacklist. Rory Medcalf, Head of the National Security College at the Australian National University, said New Delhi appeared to have been surprised by China's inflexibility since Modi came to power, fuelling distrust in the Indian security establishment."India does feel that the cards are stacked against it and that it should retain and play the cards that it does have," he said. The Dalai Lama and Tibetan exile community is clearly one of those cards."(Additional reporting by Abhishek Madhukar in DHARAMSALA and Ben Blanchard in BEIJING; Editing by Mike Collett- White).

I wrote two long paragraphs and realized that I was constantly repeating myself over and over again. So i decided to do something a little different for this episode’s review. A picture review : )My favourite line of the episode. It is really true that in case of Kashaf she would never have turned out the bitter and guarded person if her father had not neglected and disowned them at such a young age. For Kashaf everything in Zaroon’s life is perfect or so it seems. However i loved how Zaroon reminded her that in life, for one to be truly happy, relationships are more important, especially relationships that are healthy and built on trust. Maybe this is the reason why both Zaroon and Kashaf have shortcoming in themselves or trust issues due to not having or feeling the lack of those relationships. Privacy? Where does one draw the line? When one of my friends got married, an advice she received was that treat your husband like your best friend. I really wish someone had given the same advice to Kashaf. While i understood Kashaf’s rationals for maintaining space and privacy for little things, sharing Rafia’s issues and problems was a big matter and not telling Zaroon and almost giving him a shut up call was i felt a bit over the top! Why would Kashaf maintain such secrecy about it? Surely she knows Zaroon doesn’t thinks about Kahsaf like his mother does e. Zaroon! do you think you can just accuse and cold shoulder your wife for months or weeks when she received a proposal, however its perfectly fine for you to go on coffee dates with your ex fiancé. How do you guys feel about the rest of the episode. Next week: Trouble in gulzar land! Kankar Episode 8 - 1. July 2. 01. 3 Full in HQ [HD]. Le fatiche erotiche di Hercules (Video 1. A companion video to several other XXX sword & sandal videos by Joe D'Amato, this poorly- dubbed frame for 6 sex scenes is dullness personified. And Hakan Serbes as Hercules is a stone- face who makes one long for those beefcake non- actors of the '6. But of course it is ugly Hakan's big cock which earns him the big bucks. The cheap sets were recycled in big Joe's "Ulysses", which also features Mike Foster and Frank Gun from this junker. Even Hakan's outfit, his belt, skirt and boots are reused in the later picture. Foster as Zeus and Kelly Trump as Magara, a king's daughter, are prominent in support of Hakan, with Trump sending Herc on a quest to steal a golden apple from Hesperius's garden, in order to break a spell cast by Hera over her. Herc also needs the help of Samson, played again by Gun. The duo teamed up in "Samson in the Amazon's Land", likely shot back to back with this opus. When they get to the garden, Hera shows up and treats them to a d. Euro trash cinema studs to get to know one another intimately. Then Samson keeps Hera busy while Herc runs off with the golden apple. He dutifully takes it to Magara and Kelly humps him as a result. Funniest moment is when the king eats the apple and gets a boner underneath his golden cape. All this nonsense is an excuse for endless anal sex, ending the feature with Kelly's facial. Bollywood, which is the Hindu language film industry that is based in Mumbai, is part of the overall Indian film industry, which is comprised of many other production centers that produces films in multiple languages. Not only is Bollywood one of the largest film producers within India, but it is also one of the largest film production centers worldwide. Once referred to as the Hindi cinema, Bollywood films has what is called an Indian - English dialogue, also known as Hinglish. The word Bollywood was taken from the word Bombay (the previous name for Mumbai) and the word Hollywood, which is the core location of the American film and recording industry. Unlike Bollywood, Hollywood is a physical place, located right outside of Los Angeles, California. Also referred to as the home of the entertainment industry, Hollywood consists of a host of entertainment related companies, including motion picture studios, recording studios, film schools, the homes of the rich and famous, the Hollywood walk of fame, entertainment related venues and more. The name Bollywood sounds like a poor, distant cousin in comparison to the name Hollywood - although Bollywood is the largest film industry in the world. Additionally, The name Bollywood was actually inspired by the name Tollywood, which used to be referred to as the cinema of West Bengal. Dated as far back at 1. Tollywood was the earliest known name directly inspired by the name Hollywood. The name Tollywood actually refers to the Bengali film industry, which is based in Tollygunge, Calcutta. It was Tollygunge, Calcutta that was actually suggestive of Hollywood. It was the pairing of the two rhyming syllables Holly and Tolly that resulted in the name Tollywood. Eventually, Tollywood became the nickname for the Bingali film industry and soon after, other companies within the Indian film industry began to use similar sounding names, ultimately leading to the name Bollywood. Since then Tollywood is now referred to as the Telugu film industry in Andhra Pradesh. Now, the word Bollywood, which has origins that initiated in the 7. In the 1. 94. 0s through the 1. Bollywood experienced the Golden age period, where some of the most critically acclaimed films were produced. That period was followed by the Modern Cinema period, when action films and romance movies were produced. By the 2. 00. 0s, Bollywood continued to grow. It became popular throughout the world and increased in its overall quality by using more innovative storylines, animation and special effects in its films. The King's Woman: Episode 7 Recap. I am loving this drama, and I couldn't wait to watch this episode with Li Er entering the palace. Dilraba Dilmurat playing the role of Li Er is so different from her role as innocent and carefree Feng Jiu in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, and I'm enjoying her performance. I think that Li Er has much more depth to her character, and there is so much pain and suffering that she's experiencing in her life, it's definitely a transition to a mature role. The episode was a bit off compared to previous outings – nothing wrong with it, but it lacked the thematic cohesion that was so enjoyable the past few weeks. "Asian F" is the third episode of the third season of the American musical television series Glee, and the forty-seventh overall. Written by series co-creator Ian. Jing. I am loving this drama, and I couldn't wait to watch this episode with Li Er entering the palace. Dilraba Dilmurat playing the role of Li Er is so different from her.Li Er ever says to Jing Ke. She tells Tian Guang to. Jing Ke, and that she doesn't want to be the burden that keeps. Li Er meets her palace escort, which is led by Ying Zheng's closest and most trusted aide, Li Zhong. Li Er realizes that her time with Jing Ke is at an end and symbolically takes off the silk scarf Jing Ke bought her and places it in her bag. Li Er takes one last long look back, and then steps into the carriage, crying as she heads back to the palace. Ying Zheng really went all out to make sure nothing goes wrong. There are five soldiers on horseback leading the procession, four maids, and a column of at least 2. Jing Ke meets with Gao, and they get straight to fighting. I like that, no pointless small talk. They fight, and Gao is able to get the better of Jing Ke multiple times. Gao tells Jing Ke that although he is talented, he has too many worries and his temperament is too gentle. In order to become greater, he needs to put down his burdens. Li Er arrives at the palace escorted by her crowd of palace maids and soldiers. The palace walls are so tall, thick and imposing that it makes you feel like once you enter the palace, you'd never be able to escape. To protect the King's safety, there are no weapons allowed in the inner palace, and Li Zhong asks Li Er to turn over the Gong Sun family sword her grandfather had given her. It's one more stab in the heart for Li Er as she loses another piece of herself. Sensing she has no choice, Li Er turns over the sword but tells Li Zhong to protect it with his life. She wants it to be buried with her when she dies. In her new residence, Li Er cries as she sits in her rose bath. She's being prepared to become one of the King's women, and it's the last place in the world she wants to be. Madam Chu informs the Grand Dowager of Li Er's arrival to the inner palace. She's referred to as "an ordinary woman from the defeated kingdom of Wei". The Grand Dowager is furious that an ordinary woman has been brought into court, because the King's consorts have all been princesses and noble women, each carefully selected by the Grand Dowager herself. The Grand Dowager decides that the King is a man after all, and it's not unreasonable for the King to bring a woman that he likes into the palace. What? Trying to keep the peace? Or knows that she has the power to prevent Li Er from rising in the inner palace? Li Er is horrified when she finds out she is going to be named a royal consort, a Liang Ren with fourth level rank. She holds a knife to her throat while the palace maids around her plead with her to stop, saying that being appointed a Liang Ren is every woman's dream. Not this one. Li Er decides to stab herself when she faints. A physician examines Li Er, and he is unwilling to tell her what is going on before he reports to the King. After Li Er grabs him by the wrist, he informs her that she's pregnant. At this, Li Er is in complete shock. She didn't think at all this might happen? Jing. Ke returns to Tian Guang's house and looks for Li Er. Tian Guang tells. Qin, and that she likely made a devil's. King of Qin for the antidote that saved Jing Ke's life. When Li Er left, she had taken with her the Gong Sun family sword and. Jing Ke had given her. With that, Jing Ke finally. Li Er had been lying to him about the. Xianyang City at breakneck. I think he realizes that Li Er had been saying goodbye to him. He looks. like he sorely regrets not going off with Li Er to find a peaceful and. Tian Guang basically just ruined. Li Er was trying to do by leaving in secret. Ying Zheng goes to visit Li Er for the first time. She's all dressed up in rich and expensive palace clothing, completely different from what she wore before. We need to talk about the styling they used with Li Er. The hairstyle looks awful. It's all swept up and pulled back so her hair is five inches high, and she has three ornaments stuck on either side. Just…. why? Why would they do that? Li Er looks like she's aged ten or fifteen years. Other than the hairstyle, I don't really like the style and the color of the outfit she's wearing either. When we saw Ying Zheng's other consorts, they all looked so pretty. I hope this hairstyle and outfit choice doesn't last for that many episodes. Anyways. Ying Zheng comes in, and everyone delivers a formal greeting except for Li Er, who silently sits on her bed. He sends everyone away. Ying Zheng: "You kept your promise." Li Er is not about to let up one inch, "I came for my martial arts senior." Ying Zheng: "Now that you've entered my palace, don't even think about leaving, not even one step." Li Er asks, "Why is it me? With one order from you, so many dukes and warlords would be willing to find thousands of beautiful women for you to enjoy. Why did it have to be me?" Ying Zheng: "Those other women who submit to me immediately are boring." Wrong answer! Why didn't you tell her the truth? That you met her when you were kids, that she saved your life, and you've been in love with her ever since? I'm sure that would've gone over much better than this. I think he'd get much further with Li Er if he showed her he could be kind and he isn't justthe hateful King of Qin that she thinks he is right now. I'm glad that Li Er is being so open and straightforward with him right now, and that she sees no need to pretend to like him. Li Er says, "I'm not your toy!" Ying Zheng leans in and touches her face: "The more you resist me like this, the more I want to have you." She bites his hand in response and he pulls away. Lol! I love her. Ying Zheng: "You like to bite people?" I'm liking the scenes and interactions between Ying Zheng and Li Er, and I hope the writers included tons of Ying Zheng and Li Er scenes in the rest of the drama. Ying Zheng needs to change his attitude though. Li Zhong reports the arrival of the physician, who has an urgent report to deliver regarding Li Er. Li Er knows what's about to happen, but she continues to sit on the bed and doesn't say anything. The physician reports that when he examined Li Er earlier, he discovered that she's pregnant, a month along. Ying Zheng can't believe it, and storms back and forth in anger. Finally he orders, "Kill the baby!". Li Er: "If you're going to kill him, kill me first!" Ying Zheng dismisses the doctor and pulls Li Zhong's sword out and puts it against her neck. Oh boy. Preview: The aftermath of Ying Zheng finding out Li Er is pregnant, and on her first day in the palace, Li Er is pushed into a fight. Comments: After watching this episode, I would completely understand if it takes a while for Li Er to put aside her. Jing Ke enough to love Ying Zheng, because the love there is so strong. I think Ying Zheng's going to have to be very patient and work really hard to win Li Er's heart, and he's not going to do it by being arrogant and hard headed with her. It just wouldn't be realistic if Li Er goes. Tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones is named after Daenerys but in the end, “Stormborn” hinted at so much more. The storm came to the waters of Westeros; the first storm but not the last of season 7, bringing with it fire, death and betrayal. Spoiler Note: This is our book reader’s recap, intended for those who have read the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The post and the comments section may contain spoilers from the novels, whether or not that material has appeared on the show yet. Because no, we are not all Unsullied now. If you have not read the books yet, we encourage you to check out our non- book- reader recap, by Oz of Thrones! Daenerys has come home to Dragonstone as we saw in last week’s season premiere, and she’s being welcomed with a raging storm much like the one she was born in, so many years ago as Tyrion reminds her. She admits she doesn’t feel very much at home, and sets right to task in the war room. Her first order of business? Putting Varys’ ass over the fire for his misdeeds (shipping her off to the Dothraki and hiring assassins to kill her) and shifting alliances over the past two decades. Varys resists being shamed for his actions- he did what he had to do to survive, and ultimately his loyalty is to the people of the realm, not to any one leader. And as he tells her pointedly, incompetence should not be rewarded with blind loyalty. Some contemporary political commentary?) He’s not wrong and she knows it. Dany and Varys come to an agreement: he will serve her well, of his own free choice. It’s his duty to tell her to her face if she’s stepping out of line a la Mad King Daddy, but if Varys betrays her, well she’ll feed him to her dragons. Fair enough! When it comes to Varys and his motivations, I have to admit I used to not believe his words about working for the good of the realm, but I’m starting to believe that that is in fact the show’s take on him. We may yet see more revealed in the books (whenever they get published) but this is the take D& D have gone with. After their mini- trial, Team Dragonstone the Reboot receives a visit from a key member of Team Dragonstone the Original Series. It turns out that after her exile from the Wall, Melisandre returned to the place she knew best in Westeros. As an ex- slave, she’s a big fan of Dany’s work. Melisandre explains she’s there because “The Long Night is coming. Only the prince who was promised can bring the dawn.”Ohhhh, we love a good TPWWP namedrop. You have our attention. As Missandei helpfully explains with her language- nerd cred, there’s no gender for this particular noun in High Valyrian so it could be either prince or princess in this prophecy. Daenerys may be the person who can end the inevitable Long Night…or it could be someone else. Mel stops short of admitting she’s sure it’s Dany; she’s been burned when it comes to reading the flames. Mel is hedging her bets, and the show is enjoying stringing along viewers. She pushes Team Dragonstone Reboot to summon the King in the North Jon Snow to Dragonstone to explain what he’s seen beyond the Wall. Tyrion vouches for Jon’s character and reasons for hating the Lannisters. Dany agrees to send a raven- but expect Jon to bend the knee. They send a raven Express and we see Jon sharing the message with Sansa and Davos, who are wary of Jon meeting with the dragon queen. Davos wisely points out that Dany’s dragons that breathe fire are worth considering, in case they fail to stop the White Walkers. In her throne room, Cersei has gathered up the lords of the Reach to hustle them with Westerosi racism and scare tactics to rise them up against Olenna Tyrell. Randyll Tarly (last seen being a royal prick to his son Sam and with a completely different person playing his son Dickon- hey, Tom Hopper!) wisely notes the three full- grown dragons are headed their way. He may be a jackass but he’s no fool when it comes to warfare, as Jaime points out. Jaime’s keen to recruit the elder Tarly to their side, and gives Randyll the hard sell. Initially resistant due to his oath to House Tyrell, Tarly is swayed by Jaime’s reasonable logic and the tantalizing offer of the role of Warden of the South. At the Citadel, Jorah’s in bad shape, with Archmaester Ebrose giving the knight maybe six months before he loses his mind to greyscale. Ebrose brushes off Sam’s attempts to be helpful- and hopeful- and instead gives Jorah the opportunity to off himself with his sword before being shipped off to the ruins of Valyria, to live with the Stonemen. It’s then that Samwell discovers the patient is named Jorah Mormont. I can’t help but feel that this moment and the next scene would’ve been more special if Lord Commander Mormont’s death had been more similar to the books’ version, where the elder Mormont died in Sam’s arms, sharing with Sam his last wishes for Jorah. In the show, Jeor’s last words were “Blerrghharghshh” and it robs a touch of grace from the scenes tonight. But just a touch. Underneath King’s Landing, Cersei and Qyburn are cooking up a plan to deal with Daenerys- or her dragons, more to the point. The ex- maester has been doing his research and testing out weapons, and come up with a bigass crossbow as the solution to their problems. I feel like there’s a Bard the Bowman joke to be made here but I’m missing it. Bex, help me out?)They test out the weapon on the massive skull of Balerion the Dread, the dragon who belonged to Aegon the Conqueror- and yep, that’ll do it. Dany’s babies might be in trouble. At Dragonstone, Daenerys and her team are debating their next move and come to a major decision about how to take King’s Landing (and ultimately Westeros) without burning it to the ground. But first, Tyrion finally gets the opportunity to call out Ellaria for her murder of Myrcella- something long overdue. Ellaria ain’t bothered, quite frankly, not with Myrcella and not with Tyrion. But the show must go on, despite their differences. Intending to thwart Cersei’s predictable tactics, Tyrion recommends sending in the Westerosi armies- the Tyrells and Martells, while the Unsullied and Dothraki take Casterly Rock. Despite initial misgivings, the Greyjoys and Ellaria get on board with the plan. Afterward in private, Dany reassures the grumpy Olenna, but the Queen of Thorns brushes it off. Instead, she encourages Daenerys to be a dragon, not a sheep. Elsewhere in the castle, Missandei goes to say farewell to Grey Worm, who has avoided the moment. He admits that she’s his weakness, when he never had one until now- his strength as an Unsullied. Only now, he’s afraid. After his confession, the Unsullied man rushes up to Missandei and kisses her deeply. She steps back, and undresses carefully. At first, he’s reluctant to undress completely, but she pleads, “I want to see you.” They gaze at each other, a wealth of feelings showing in their faces, kiss and then fall into bed together. He may be Unsullied but whatever his status quo is, he’s able to make sure Missandei enjoys herself- and Grey Worm sets about doing just that. Back at the Citadel, Sam’s thankless duties assisting Ebrose continue. He broaches the subject of curing greyscale and admits he’s come upon something interesting in an old text, by Archmaester Pylos. A name borrowed from a minor character in ASOIAF: the maester at Dragonstone who succeeds the ill- fated Maester Cressen.) Pylos possibly found a cure- but then he died from greyscale, and it’s now forbidden to attempt it. Given Sam’s stubbornness, I think we know where this is headed. Popping into Jorah’s cell, and- I just want to throw a book at Jorah Mormont, because this man even starts his letters to her with KHALEESI. A day without a khaleesi blast is a day that never was, for Jorah Mormont. Anyway, he’s planning to send her a raven, letting her know he’s at the Citadel, but Sam interrupts with a box of knives and medical goo. He introduces himself properly, revealing his connection to Jorah’s father and his plan to try and cure the man. That’s two weeks in a row now of Sam doing something utterly disgusting, as he sets to removing the upper layer of Jorah’s afflicted skin to save him. Jorah bites down on leather to stifle his screams. And I shed a tear for his timeless yellow pirate shirt which lasted more than six seasons, to the delight of fans everywhere. Next up: the return you didn’t expect or know you wanted, but it’s the one you needed– HOT PIE. Stopping at the Inn at the Crossroads (AKA the only inn in Westeros), Arya runs into her old friend Hot Pie! It’s like no time has passed at all. The baker boy informs her that the ‘big lady’ was looking for her there- Brienne, of course, and they catch up on the latest gossip. Arya’s cool as can be, oddly cool almost, and mentions she’s headed south, since that’s where Cersei is, until Hot Pie tells her that Jon is back in Winterfell. It’s then that Arya comes to life, with a light in her face that gives you hope. Take leave of her friend and the inn, she looks at both paths and makes a choice- and heads north toward home. Literally at the Crossroads. As a metaphor, it’s not subtle, but it works. Jon has another noisy group meeting at Winterfell, informing his people on his decision to visit Dragonstone, with Davos by his side. Sansa reminds him of Rickard Stark’s death at the hands of the Targaryens, and no one is on Jon’s side with this. Royce, Glover, Mormont- all want Jon to stay put, but he’s resolved. He’s going south, and leaving the North in hands he trusts- Sansa’s. Before he leaves, he visits Ned’s crypt, but his moment is interrupted by Littlefinger. Immediately he’s on guard and so Littlefinger goes on the offensive, reminding Jon that he owes him for his victory in the Battle of the Bastards. Unusually, he makes a major tactical mistake and admits he loves Sansa as he loved Cat. Jon deservedly choke- slams him against the wall, as Ned once did, and warns him to stay away from Sansa. Traveling north alone, the other Stark sister is facing a different danger. The 2. 5 Best Horror Films Of The 2. Century So Far. Check out Indie. Wire’s newest list of best horror films of the 2. By the pricking of my thumbs, a holiday- themed list feature this way comes. Yep, All Hallow’s Eve is almost upon us, and while the temptation to do some kind of “Before I Go To Sleep“- themed feature was a great one, we thought we should put together something appropriately spooky to get you in the mood for tomorrow night’s festivities. So, during a break from making our costumes for the annual Playlist Halloween party (popular choices this year: the Babadook, Kevin Feige, Alexander from “Alexander and The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” box- office receipts for “Sin City 2,” a Gamer. Gater), we’ve been considering the state of recent horror. We’re now fifteen years into the new millennium, and while the horror genre is as ever responsible for more dross than most, it’s also been an exciting time for scary movie fans, with a new wave of filmmakers emerging from all around the world with smart new takes on how to make you scream. So after much deliberation/arguing, we’ve picked out the 2. Take a look at our picks below, and let us know your picks in the comments. Orphan” (2. 00. 9)Dark Castle Entertainment, the genre production arm formed by “Tales from the Crypt” principals Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis and Gilbert Adler, started off by making above- average remakes of films originally produced by the king of gimmicky thrillers William Castle. James Corden and Jensen Karp, the EP's of TBS's "Drop the Mic," shared their dream rap battle lineup: Judi Dench vs. Maggie Smith. Caprio, might be the company’s very best film. Helmed by Spanish stylist Jaume Collet- Serra, the film is an endlessly fascinating take on the “evil child” horror sub- genre, this time centered around a young couple (played by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard) who, following the stillborn birth of their third child, decide to adopt an odd Russian girl named Esther (a haunting Isabelle Fuhrman). At 1. 23 minutes, the movie is a decidedly slow burn, but it ramps up to a rare (and essentially unguessable) twist that doesn’t totally discredit the rest of the movie. Instead, it makes the climax, set in Connecticut but turned, thanks to Jeff Cutter‘s chilly cinematography, into a snowy world more reminiscent of the ice planet Hoth, even more powerful and perverse. Available in: Blu-ray. Hayao Miyazaki's fantasy adventure Castle in the Sky begins with a chase scene through a flying ship, where all the. Even if you’re not a fan of this particular genre sub- set, it’s hard to argue with the effective and stylistic verve of “Orphan.” And even before the twist blows your mind, chances are you’ll already be shaken up. The Ring” (2. 00. In the early 0. 0s, J- horror was big news and Hollywood was quick to catch on, with studios greenlighting remakes of everything that had been even mildly successful in Asia with CW- friendly casts. For the most part, the results of movies like “Pulse,” “The Grudge,” “The Eye” and “One Missed Call” were disastrous, but the first of the batch, “The Ring,” was against the odds excellent. Directed by a pre- ”Pirates of the Caribbean” Gore Verbinski, the film follows roughly the same plot as the original, with a journalist and single mother (Naomi Watts, who’d just broken out in “Mulholland Drive”) discovering that her niece has died a mysterious death, her body frozen in a position of horror. Digging into the case, she finds that the death may have been linked to the urban legend of a mysterious video tape that causes the death of anyone who watches it after seven days. The new trailer and poster for Mark and Jay Duplass' HBO anthology series, Room 104, reveal unique stories of everyday people. James Van Der Beek talks about playing Diplo in the series What Would Diplo Do?, collaborating with Spike Jonze, and serving as a showrunner for the first time. It’s probably not superior to the 1. Verbinski retains much of what worked about Hideo Nakata’s film, and beautifully amps up the atmosphere, with an almost painterly feel to the photography by Bojan Bazelli, and a halting, jolting score by Hans Zimmer. And though the shock of the film’s ending was probably lessened for those who’d seen the original, those coming to the remake fresh almost certainly never forgot it. You’re Next” (2. 01. If the names Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett aren’t familiar, then you should bookmark their IMDB pages. On the strength of this clever, funny, subversive home invasion movie and their latest “The Guest,” which sadly all but disappeared from theaters due to stiff competition in a very crowded market, they’re two upstart genre filmmakers whose careers you’ll want to follow. Without question what they do next is an exciting prospect (a remake of the excellent “I Saw the Devil,” the Korean revenge film to end all Korean revenge films, was recently announced), but for now we have “You’re Next,” currently available to stream on Netflix. It’s a thrill ride, a reminder of when horror films were fun, and almost never disappoints. It stars a rogue’s gallery of former mumblecore elites and current/past indie mainstays —Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, Ti West, AJ Bowan, Kate Lyn Sheil, Larry Fessenden— all upstaged by the film’s MVP, Sharni Vinson, who takes what must have already been a great character on the page and infuses it with humor, bloodlust and urgency. We’ll leave it for you to discover what we’re getting at, because “You’re Next” works best when characters turn the tables and expectations are upended. See More. The 2. 0 Best Horror Movies Of The 2. Century, From ’2. Days Later’ to ‘Get Out’2. It Follows” (2. 01. When you think of movies premiering at the Cannes, chances are you don’t think about supernatural teens- in- jeopardy chillers, but this year “It Follows” debuted in the Critics’ Week sidebar and by all accounts managed to be one of the highlights. As directed by David Robert Mitchell (“Myth of the American Sleepover“), “It Follows” is many things —it’s a fairly on- the- nose metaphor for the dangers of promiscuity, a superb modern campfire tale, and a loose imagining of what would happen if the cast of “The Breakfast Club” banded together to fight a horrifying otherworldly evil. It is also scary as hell. Mitchell captures the action in a series of queasy long takes, a welcome reprieve from the quick- cutting assault that helped define the “torture porn” slate of films, so the viewer is waiting for something terrible to happen instead of being bludgeoned with it; it’s artful and eerie at the same time. The mythology that Mitchell sets up makes a whimsical kind of sense (hopefully it will be left mercifully unexplored, should sequels be in the cards) and Maika Monroe (who starred in another killer genre film from this year, “The Guest“) is one of the most compelling female horror icons since Jamie Lee Curtis in “Halloween.” She is a girl whose fumbling one night stand ends up haunting her —literally. Berberian Sound Studio” (2. British director Peter Strickland made a hell of a debut with his first film, the Hungarian- language drama “Katalin Varga,” but it went severely underseen, despite winning awards at the Berlin Film Festival. The result was that “Berberian Sound Studio,” his horror- tinged follow- up, was very much under- the- radar when it arrived, but the film successfully broke open the skulls of pretty much everyone that saw it. Influenced by both David Lynch and classic giallo horror, the film starred the great Toby Jones as Gilderoy, a sound engineer who travels to Italy to work on a horror picture called “The Equestrian Vortex” (the film’s director takes exception at calling it a horror film: one imagines Strickland might say the same). Gilderoy begins his meticulous work but finds himself rapidly unraveling. It’s in part a horror film about the effect of horror films, and that we barely see anything of the film- within- the- film only lets your imagination play havoc with the unpleasant squelches and screams that are being created by the sonic wizard (and Jones is absolutely terrific in the part). Pure genre fans might come away disappointed with the lack of jump- scares or actual gore, but this is a truer kind of horror, one that reaches in and shakes your skeleton through your ears. Room 1. 04: Trailer & Poster For Duplass' Latest. The new trailer and poster for HBO anthology series Room 1. Mark and Jay Duplass’ latest effort. Room 1. 04 presents 1. Each episode boasts a different director, and will span different eras and genres. The eclectic cast includes James Van Der Beek (recently on CSI: Cyber, but still best known for Dawson’s Creek), Amy Landecker (Transparent), Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow) and Karan Soni (Dopinder in Deadpool). The show is being put together by the team of Mark and Jay Duplass, who currently executive produce HBO’s adult animated comedy series Animals, which returns for a third season next year. The duo also created the pay cable network’s critically acclaimed but recently cancelled comedy series Togetherness. The Duplass Brothers said their inspiration for Room 1. We’ve all seen stories set in seedy motels and high- class international resorts, but for years we’ve been fascinated by the funny, weird, sad, scary, absurd things going down in that corporate chain hotel near the airport.”Now HBO has released a trailer for Room 1. It’s clear that this is going to be more than just your average drunk businessman having a bit of a wild night away from home. Amidst the comedy and heavy drama, there appear to be plenty of stories featuring mysterious supernatural and horror elements. The list of episode synopses released by HBO includes a story involving a woman (Sameerah Luqmaan- Harris) hoping to transcend to another reality via a cult priest (Jones), and in an episode that provides much of the striking imagery in the video, a housekeeper (Dendrie Taylor) reconnects with her younger self (Sarah Hay). The official poster for the series, which features a woman leaping into her hotel room bathroom, also hints at the adult content viewers expect from HBO. Van Der Beek’s episode in Room 1. The trailer also begins with a hilarious peek at the episode featuring two young Mormon missionaries (Adam Foster and Nat Wolff), who seek a sign from God and find the hotel porn channel. Room 1. 04 so far looks fascinating, and the interesting array of contributors could lead to some groundbreaking results. Taylor’s episode featuring the past- and- present housekeepers is directed by Dayna Hanson, who is best known as a contemporary dance choreographer. Documentary director and producer Xan Aranda joins actor Ross Partridge (recently on Billions) to write and direct Landecker’s episode about the sole survivor of a plane crash who must choose to go back in time or live with her new fate. While the lack of consistency in tone and direction from episode to episode could lead to a hit or miss result, it’s likely there will be few criticisms of boring or stale plotlines. God knows how many years after the events in Rot. S, gotta be at least 5. From TPM to this movie, its obviously even more years.. Now initially I wasn't gonna review this movie because some (classic) movies are so big there is nothing more to add (hence why I have never reviewed the original trilogy or films like 'Alien', what more can I add or say? We all know they are nigh on perfect). But after a few requests and the fact I cannot contain my frustration any more, here we go. OK so the plot is generally unclear on some aspects so far, as we all know many parts will fall into place when we get the next movie and so forth. So lets focus on some of the aspects that we do know right here right now, some things that, for me, just didn't really make sense or just seemed rushed. I say rushed because I genuinely do not feel like this movie was given time to lay out its characters and history, far too eager to get into big action set pieces, anyway. Lets start with Finn, new kid on the Star Wars block. Now this guy is an Imperial Stormtrooper, he was stolen as a child and raised to be a baddie essentially, he knows little else, but he presumably does know his fellow troopers. I mean think about it, this guy has grown- up and trained with all these blokes, he must know them well, probably has friends, and pretty much only knows the Imperial way. Yet this does not stop him completely abandoning his unit and fellow troopers, freeing a rebel captive and running off in a stolen TIE fighter! OK, he clearly gets a very stark first hand reminder of what the Empire does to innocents, but surely he must have come across things like this before? Imperial Stormtrooper! OK it might be his first foray into a ground mission.. Empire gets up to, at least somewhat, its not like they try to cover that much up. The fact that Finn even trusts a rebel captive is really quite a stretch frankly, considering his upbringing, his training, his possible brainwashing or conditioning to the Empire, I would find it nigh on impossible to think that a Stormtrooper would so easily be swayed (without the use of the force). To top that, he even merrily joins in on blasting his fellow troopers to kingdom come from within the TIE fighter! How in the hell can one person make such a rash decision against his own so quickly! I felt this entire premise was not played out well at all, completely rushed and not looked into on a deeper level. Sure there might not have been time, but then don't use this angle if you can't do it justice. This continues throughout the film and is barely delved into, I believe Finn is called a traitor by a trooper at one point but clearly Finn hasn't ever let this issue cross his mind once. Its almost as unbelievable as the TIE crash on Jakku, how did Finn and Poe survive this exactly? Poe scramble off without a trace before Finn could find him in the scorched wreckage?? Beats the livin' shit outta me, don't question it. After crash landing on Jakku that led me to another very obvious question, why exactly is Jakku covered in crashed ships?? OK so obviously there was a major space conflict above the planet at some point, but would there really be that many wrecked ships strewn around the terrain? Yeah maybe the odd one sure but what they show just felt kinda ridiculous, overkill. Moving on the story follows the other new kid on the Star Wars block, Rey, the plucky youngster living on this desert planet with dreams of something bigger (psst! Now whilst these two new main characters were perfectly fine, I still haven't really warmed up to either of them, probably because both are just serviceable and nothing more. Finn is a likeable guy that is well portrayed in a likeable, amusing way by John Boyega that's for sure. I certainly preferred his character over Daisy Ridley's Rey because he was more approachable, more regular. You could relate to him more as he was obviously the link into this unbelievable universe for us, the audience. Rey on the other hand I just found annoying, I'm not sure why but she just annoyed me. Her drab appearance, the way she always grits her teeth as if she were a lunatic, the fact she was so skinny, and yes the way she was good at everything bugged me, she just felt unbelievable. But what about Luke in the original films you say? Well those films were made a long time ago now, times were and are different now, films weren't inspected to such a high degree back then (no internet) as they are today, and.. I've grown- up! I look at things differently now. Had the original films come out now I'd probably be saying the same shit about Luke in all honesty because the argument is similar. The movie fires along at a rapid pace and just as quick as we arrive on Jakku, we are leaving it at blistering speeds, strapped into the Falcon once again. I might add that the Falcon was picked up by Finn and Rey in a desperate escape attempt that was more humorous than thrilling really, but not in a particularly good way as this isn't supposed to be a comedy. Like Rey knew all about the Falcon and its history.. Yep so the Falcon was owned by some fat alien guy, who apparently left the ship completely unlocked so anyone could enter it, oh and it fired up straight away despite having been sitting there for God knows how long and clearly being in a bad way. Even more incredible was the fact Rey could fly the thing so well and Finn could work the gun turrets, deus ex machina much? Yes it was good to see the old Falcon again no doubt about that, nostalgia target hit precisely, but what else have you got? By this point its clear to see how the plot is unfolding, you are indeed seeing a soft remake of 'A New Hope'. All the original beats were being hit step by step in almost the same ways.. The main difference being, amazingly, it looks worse than the original, yes that's right, worse. The entire sequence where we meet up with Solo and Chewie on- board their big space freighter thing was terrible, absolutely terrible. For a start the whole thing looked like something from a videogame in- game sequence, the big CGI alien with multiple eyes looked woefully bad, and the space pirates that are after Solo were horrendous stereotypes. You had a group of Asian space pirates that looked like extras from 'Big Trouble in Little China', and the other group was led by some Scottish bloke who actually had a thick Scottish accent. Nothing wrong with a Scottish accent but my God it felt out of place here. Its also here we discover Harrison Ford really can't run anymore and it was kinda awkward to watch. This was the first cheapass looking sequence in the film, believe it or not there were more. Things got even worse (in my opinion) as we reached the final part of the movie which was yet another Death Star attack because.. Remember before all this we did have the obligatory Star Wars cantina sequence which again looked worse than the original, somehow, and a Boba Fett clone in Captain Phasma who was utterly utterly pointless and a female because.. Empire have female Stormtroopers?). Apparently the cantina did get completely obliterated though.. I think? not sure but it seemed that way so.. Oh Christ how could I forget about that stupid Stormtrooper scene where some random, faceless trooper challenges Finn with his big electric stick thing. What the literal fuck was that all about?! Spaceballs'. At this point I will also just mention that the Stormtroopers all look short and dumpy. God knows how that's happened, the design of the armour obviously but somehow they all look stumpy and tubby. Anyway the finale, oh Jesus! Yeah OK the X- wing dogfights looked good, they couldn't fail to get that wrong! The fact it was all over a big Death Star- esque weapon again unfortunately took the punch out of the proceedings because.. What really got me, what really genuinely pissed me off was the fact that it all looked cheap! How is this possible?? The interior cockpit shots of the X- wing pilots, as they flew around in battle, were quite simply nowhere near as good or as realistic as in the original films. The dashboard and surroundings interior parts all looked plastic, their helmets looked cheap, tacky and they wobbled, and what's worse, the pilot actors were poor! They are clearly throwing themselves around in the cockpit when nothing else is moving! Now I know the original X- wing pilots in the original films were kinda slapdash and jokey to a degree, but these new guys just gave off a fanboy, fanmade film vibe, or they were best mates with someone and that's how they got the gig. CGI exterior shots of all the ships looked good, very slick and fast, but pretty much everything else interior wise was poor, including the alien fighter pilot. This leads me to two famous cameos from the original movies, Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb, again.. Take a look at Rot. J and the prosthetic masks for these two characters, now look at this movie, notice the difference? Plus Nunb is wearing the exact same outfit? Then you have the rebel base on D'Qar that apparently consisted of like.. X- wings and a couple hangars? I swear I still can't believe how pathetic it looked, literately a small group of rebels, a few fighters, a few droids and the Falcon. The rebel bases in the original films had so much depth, lots of ships docked up, loads of people and activity, sure they used all the tricks in the book to create this sense of depth but it fudging worked didn't it! The final aerial shot as the Falcon leaves shows the base to be an obvious small set that looked more like a Hobbit patch than a rebel base. Just as bad as the final aerial shot in the film with Luke and Rey, what the flip was that supposed to be?! The Crowd Roars (1. IMDb. Well- tuned cars. The script's practically a textbook of genre cliches, from the best buddy whose death- on- wheels gives our hero a guilt complex to the sibling rivalry that is mysteriously resolved, offscreen, in the last reel. Cagney's justifiably celebrated skill and charm can't make us care about this misogynistic, unlikeable blowhard, nor can it make his rapid descent into drink, vagrancy, and hunger (or equally rapid rise back to the Indy) credible. Howard Hawks was already making fast- paced, psychologically sound male- bonding flicks, but even he's flummoxed by the hoary melodramatics of this one. The ladies have little to do but play weepy- loyal (Ann Dvorak) and sarcastic- loyal (Joan Blondell), but they come off best. Top 2. 50 Best Romantic Bollywood Songs List In Hindi Latest September 2.
